PodDescription:
KPETS provides a network of dependable registered therapy teams committed to providing therapeutic benefits through the use of animals to physically, emotionally and mentally challenged people from all walks of life in a wide variety of settings.

History:
KPETS was established in Jan, 2003 and 501(c)3 in August of 03. Our services are provided on a volunteer basis and there is never a fee - although donations are greatly appreciated.

Starting as a small group with a church, we soon realized there were so many people wanting to do this type of volunteering. We expanded our outreach to the general public by forming KPETS and becoming a non-profit organization. We found that the national therapy pet organizations could not keep up with the registration process or offer teams the personal attention to get started. At that point, we pursued acquiring our own registration process and insurance coverage.

We are currently reaching over 200 facilities and have an extensive mailing list to match volunteers with facilities requesting our services.

We have one major fund-raiser a year and various other activities to raise funds to cover expenses - such as web site hosting, equipment needs, printing and postage costs, etc. With the increase in volunteers to over 300 and the constant requests for visits, part-time help and office space have been added to our expenses so we can continue to successfully meet these needs. Donations from presentations and fun events, etc. also help cover expenses. Please visit our sponsor page to find how you can help us continue our efforts.
As the popularity of pets increases, this is a natural way to help others. As one volunteer put it, "Our pets supply us with endless unconditional love; it's only fair that we should share it with others!"
