WHAT: The library would like to have visits over the Summer for children to read to the dogs in an outdoor area. Audience: Children, Pet Type Preferred: Dog. Children will read to dogs in 15-minute intervals. One dog would probably see about 6 children in one evening.
COVID-19 Precautions: SITE: “We are following ALL PA DOH and CDC guidelines at the library and have been since we reopened on June 1st 2020. We have not had any in-person programming since our closure of March 2020. We’d like to reintroduce this program to our families this summer outdoors on our lawn. Lots of fresh air! Safety is our biggest concern!” KPETS General – Visiting volunteers must have a signed KPETS volunteer agreement COVID-19 addendum on file with KPETS and follow current CDC, state and local COVID-19 guidelines during each visit. When the weather is warmer we prefer outside visits but when it’s too cold/inclement weather for that, we recommend: One room designated as a visit area for attendees to come in one at a time to pet the animal. A professional staff person (teacher, therapist, etc.) must be present during the entire visit. Everyone must wear face coverings and use hand sanitizer before and after petting the animals. Social distancing must be followed with 6ft between our handler and participants. If participants or our volunteers are uncomfortable at any time or believe the precautions are not being followed they will end the visit immediately for the safety of all. No one should participate if they are feeling at all unwell. Visits may be cancelled at the last minute due to the fluid status of state and local COVID precautions. To protect the pets from becoming overwhelmed and tired, visits are limited to not more than 1 to 1.5 hours per team.
